Long Bio

Dr. Georgios Siskos was born and raised in Karditsa, a town of 50.000 citizens in the center of Greece. He has lived 12 years outside Greece, further developing his skills and expertise. His father is a mathematician, his mother a consultant ophthalmologist and his sister a lawyer working for the European Union. His beautiful partner Verginiya, born in Bulgaria and raised in Ireland, is a pharmacist.

His surgical subspecialties are refractive cataract surgery and repairs of the eyelids and the lacrimal system.

Dr. Siskos started his training in ophthalmology at the age of 25 and showed an inherent talent in cataract surgery, operating from the very first month of his training. His training started in Lemnos, a quiet Greek island in the North Aegean, and was completed in Larissa, one of the larger cities in central Greece.

During his training, he was lucky enough to work alongside Dr. Mikes Glynatsis, his first and fundamental cataract surgery tutor.

While working as a junior ophthalmologist he completed two master degree programs in Greece. One was focused on the optimal interpretation of the various diagnostic imaging techniques used in ophthalmology, a 2 year program. The second one was focused on the practical interpretation of scientific literature, a 1 year program.

Before completing his ophthalmology training he successfully took part in the European Board of Ophthalmology examination of comprehensive ophthalmology in Paris, France.

Consequently he went on to successfully sit the Greek Association of Ophthalmology exams, the official examination of comprehensive ophthalmology in Greece.

Following his full registration as a specialist ophthalmologist at the age of 30, he went on to work in a private general ophthalmology and cataract surgery service, in his hometown, Karditsa. During that spell he worked alongside his first ever mentor, Dr. Eleni Pitsavou.

Following his successful spell in Karditsa he was chosen to become the only Neuro-ophthalmology and Oculoplastics fellow in Ireland, working at the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital, the tertiary eye hospital of Ireland. He worked alongside one of the most humanitarian and creative doctors he would ever meet, Professor Lorraine Cassidy, and the ambitious, kind and inspiring Ophthalmology Consultant Rizwana Khan.

Further on he was invited to lead the oculoplastic and reconstructive service of Örebro University Hospital in Sweden, while also contributing as an experienced cataract surgeon. The service is now being continued by Dr. Hani Chatila, a truly gifted oculoplastic and reconstructive surgeon.

During his time in Ireland and Sweden Dr. Siskos also completed a 1 year post graduate certification program from Ulster University in Northern Ireland on the use of refractive surgery lasers and the use of cataract surgery premium intraocular lenses.

During the same time period he was invited by Dr. Georgios Vartsakis and Prof. Ioannis Aslanidis to participate to the efforts of the Greek College of Ophthalmology as a lead lecturer on the topic of cataract surgery theory and techniques.

Subsequently, he was employed by Dr. Foley’s Eye Clinic, in Georgetown of the stunning Cayman Islands, where he served as a general ophthalmologist and an oculoplastics, reconstructive and cataract surgeon. He was lucky enough to become a member of a high standard ophthalmology clinic, a truly exceptional team and a loving community.
